New in Squeezebox Apps: LOUIS4Vera – Home Control Right From Your Audio System

Squeezebox Apps for Home AutomationOne of the latest Squeezebox Apps turns your streaming audio player into home control hub. Really? How about controlling your whole house home automation right from your audio system, using your audio remote control?

New app for Squeezebox player LOUIS4Vera V0.9 by Ap15e: Line-Oriented User Interface for Squeezebox devices for Vera does just that. Now Squeezebox users can use an IR remote and a Squeezebox/Squeezebox Server to control Vera – popular and so feature rich home automation controller. Run Vera’s scenes and control Vera’s devices.

Application is designed as MiOS plugin built on Luup framework; the plugin for Micasaverde Vera allows the latter to receive commands from Squeezebox receiver. On Squeezebox Server side a little modification of IR configuration files is required.

Below is the simplified diagram of Squeezebox controlling Vera:

IR remote -> Squeezebox <-> Squeezebox Server <-> Vera with LOUIS4Vera Luup plugin <-> Vera’s Scenes/Devices

LOUIS4Vera  uses standard JVC DVD remote IR codes, so there should be no incompatibility issues.
